Hyundai Mipo Dockyard update
Product tanker delivered,
orders for bulk carriers for Vinashin subsidiary...
On March 18 HMD held a naming ceremony for a 46,000-dwt Product
Carrier ordered by National Chemical Carriers (NCC) Co., Ltd. of Saudi
Arabia.
In attendance were people from NCC, HMD, and classification societies.
The new ship, Hull No. 0470, was named NCC Haiel. It is the last of
ten 46,000-dwt Product/Chemical Tankers ordered by NCC, and measures
183.025m in length, 32.2m in width, and 18.8m in depth.
The ship is equipped with a Hyundai B&W 6S50MC-C engine, providing
12,900 BHP and a service speed of 15.0 knots.
Meanwhile Hyundai-Vinashin Shipyard (HVS) in Vietnam, a subsidiary of
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, recently received an order from Nordcapital of
Germany for four 56,000-dwt Bulk Carriers. The ships will measure 187m
in length, 32.26m in width, 18.3m in depth, and have a service speed
of 14.5 knots. This increases the HVS backlog of 56,000-dwt Bulk
Carriers to 14.
Since its establishment in 1996, HVS has been managed by HMD,
repairing more than 860 vessels including converting over 20 PCTCs.
HVS began its newbuilding business with a contract for ten 56,000-dwt
Bulk Carriers in 2007, with the first steel cutting to start in August
of 2008. HMD will support the new building business of HVS.
