calls on Felixstowe
Inaugural call on Turkey to
UK service...
The Port of Felixstowe welcomed the inaugural call of the largest
vessel in the Turkon Line fleet on 29th March 2008, with the arrival
of the 1,900-TEU 'Mukaddes Kalkavan'.
The 183m-long vessel is the first of four increased-capacity Turkon
vessels destined to be in service by the end of the year.
The new service will operate between the Turkish ports of Istanbul,
Gemlik and Izmir, calling at Genoa, Marseilles and Barcelona on its
way to Felixstowe.
Chris Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited,
which owns the Port of Felixstowe, said:
“The maiden call of the 'Mukaddes Kalkavan' represents the start of
the upgrade to this important service. We are delighted to welcome the
vessel, and look forward to working with the new additions to the
Turkon fleet later this year.’
Turkon Line was established in April 1997 as the first privately-owned
Turkish shipping line, and has worked with the Port of Felixstowe
since October 2002.
