BG Freight Line has been named ship operator of the year at the Marine Industry Awards 2016 which took place in Galway recently.
A leading supplier of containerised services, BG Freight Line was recognised for its efficient and competitive services between Ireland, UK and Europe, which the judges considered had allowed the creation of more jobs and boosted the Irish economy.
Attended by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed TD, 19 awards were presented to winners during the event at the Radisson Blu Galway.
BG Freight Line operates 15 fully containerised ships covering the UK, Belgium, France, Netherlands and Republic of Ireland, serving all ports at least twice a week. In the last year BG Freight Line has extended its Irish Sea Hub network with a new service connecting Rotterdam, Liverpool, Dublin, Belfast and Greenock.
Koert Luitwieler, CEO of BG Freight Line and Shipping Director at Peel Ports, said “Efficient and reliable shipping is key to the success of Ireland’s island economy and allows global trade to flow to and from the country. Being either the first or last link in the supply chain, our goal is to make sure goods reach their markets as quickly and efficiently as possible. To be recognised as ship operator of the year is testament to our hardworking staff and business growth over the past year.”
A 100%-owned subsidiary of Peel Ports, the owners of the Port of Liverpool and Clydeport, BG Freight Line carried 650,000 TEU in 2015. Headquartered in Rotterdam, BG Freight Line has over 85 employees throughout Europe with 25 Irish staff.
