Video: OSTEND SPIRIT Beaching At Turkish Scrapyard
Amazing video doing the rounds in online press...

It's not often you got to see this! But these days, thanks to modern technology, you can now via YouTube. This video by Ender Ozer shows the former Townsend Thoreson and P&O ferry PRIDE OF CALAIS,latterly OSTEND SPIRIT being beached at Aliaga shipbreakers in Turkey

Ship-spotters will doubtless find the other vessels in the video interesting too.

The OSTEND SPIRIT was built in 1987 for TT as the PRIDE OF CALAIS FROM 1987 to 2012 she was operated by various P&O divisions, initially on the Dover - Calais route.

She was chartered in December 2012 by Transeuropa Ferries but this ended in disaster only a few months later, returned to P&O in April 2013 and laid up at Tilbury, her crew refusing to get off the ship as they had been unpaid. Transeuropa went bankrupt and the ship remained at Tilbury until October of last year when she began her journey to her final destination as seen below.

YouTube contains a number of Aliaga Beachings, and well worth a search although it is a sad sight to see so many ships at the end of their lives.
