The NorthLink ferry MV Hrossey is undergoing repairs in Aberdeen Harbour after being struck by another vessel while berthing at Aberdeen's Jamieson's Quay.

The impact, on the port side and above the water line, left two deep gouge marks in the side of the ship with partially penetrated the steel plate. The company ordered a permanent repair, meaning the ship was out of service until Sunday.

Normal operations have resumed but the brief cancellation of services caused some disruption nonetheless with the Shetland Times reporting that local shops had bare shelves with bread, fruit, vegetables and meat being in short supply.
