Port welcomes first cruise ship in years
HANSEATIC visits Ipswich on Round Britain cruise...

The Port of Ipswich has played host to its first cruise-call in several years with the arrival of MS Hanseatic. The 123-metre vessel, operated by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, visited the town recently as part of a round-Britain cruise, particularly designed to show the German passengers some of the finest architecture and gardens in the British Isles.

Approximately half of the 188 passengers chose to go on a guided tour of the nearby Beth Chatto Gardens and the historic town centre of Colchester, while the other half took advantage of a free shuttle bus service organised by the Tourist Information Centre to explore Ipswich itself.

Christchurch Mansion and Park proved to be particularly popular with the visitors, for whom Ipswich was the last port of call in the UK before returning to Germany.

Alastair MacFarlane, ABP Port Manager, East Anglia, said:

“We are delighted that Hapag-Lloyd Cruises have chosen to visit Ipswich. Both the town and the surrounding area have an enormous amount to offer visitors, and when they arrive by sea, we are perfectly equipped to handle their needs, whether they are in a small yacht or a large cruise ship such as the Hanseatic.”
