Five dead as ferry collides with barge
Chinese news agencies report that two women and three men are confirmed dead after a ferry collided with a barge carrying sand in the Zhujiang River, Guangzhou in Guangdong Province...



The ferry sank with 34 people, 26 were saved but three people remain unaccounted for.

The incident happened at 9.30 am on Friday.

The ferry, called No. 218 collided with the barge near the Hedong Bridge. This vessel was 'safe' said Xinhau news agency.

According to the Guangzhou Daily the ferry sank in five minutes.

Divers located the sunken ferry and rescuers are still attempting to find the missing three.

Meanwhile a Philippine fishing vessel went down in the South China Sea on Thursday near Zhongye Reef, Nansha Islands. The vessel was said to have succumbed to high winds, but figures on the missing vary from report to report, however it would appear that 25 Filipino sailors are missing from the disaster.
