Cruise ships in minor collision in Norwegian fjord
Norwegian press report collision between THOMSON SPIRIT and OCEAN MAJESTY

Two cruise ships collided in an Norwegian Fjord reports a Norwegian online newspaper.

The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon in the Gieranger Fjord said Nettavisen.no as the two vessels were berthing.

The damage is reported as slight with some lifeboats and davits taking the brunt of the slow collision. Unconfirmed reports of slight damage to cabins are being mentioned in cruising forums.

The ships involved were the OCEAN MAJESTY and THOMSON SPIRIT.

Geiranger with its breathtaking scenery is a popular destination for cruise ships and on the day in question there were four ships in total bound for the narrow fjord.

As ships cannot berth at the township of Geiranger they have to moor in the fjord. It seems likely what happened is a gust of wind pushed one of the vessels against the other.

There are reports online that Page & Moy sent the passengers home from OCEAN MAJESTY as repairs would take three days. It is not known by us what level of damage the Thomson ship suffered.

Both companies' websites carry no reports or announcements so far on the incident.
