Airlines cannot compete with sea travel says ferry company
Irish Ferries offer new low fares between Ireland and Britain

Irish Ferries have heralded the arrival of Autumn with a EUR89 lowest-ever one way-fare to Britain for a car and driver operable for travel on their Rosslare - Pembroke route from September 26th until December next.

It is supported by a lead-in fare of just EUR10 extra for travel between August 27th and September 25th with a EUR10 supplement applicable in both periods for travel on Ulysses, the Dublin-Holyhead cruise ferry.

Billed as yet another challenge to the low-cost airlines, the fare is bookable 28 days in advance and includes all taxes and fuel charges and is free of any other hidden extras.

According to Irish Ferries, airlines can no longer compete with the value being offered by sea with the equivalent air fare for a family of four between Ireland and Britain being 40 per cent higher in some cases.

Commenting, their head of passenger sales Declan Mescall said ‘in contrast with air travel, passengers are also attracted to the shorter 30 minutes check-in and the convenience of being able to bring as much luggage as their car can carry’.
