Container ships christened at Hyundai shipyard
And orders for HMD  total $4.43 billion so far this year

On June 20th 2007 Hyundai Mipo Dockyard held a naming ceremony for a 4300 TEU Class Containership, Hull No. 0408, the first of five 4300 TEU Panamax containerships ordered by E.R. Schiffahrt GmbH & CIE. KG of Germany.

This containership was named ITAL MATTINA by the ship owner. (Although as seen in the photo right, her E.R. name is actually E.R. NELSON - Confused? So were we!)

Senior Executive Vice President of HMD, Kim Choon-gon, and many representatives of E.R. Schiffahrt attended the ceremony.

On June 25th there was another naming ceremony for Hull No. 0320. This vessel is the second of two 3450 TEU Class containerships ordered by Rickmers Reederei GmbH & CIE. KG of Germany. The ship owner named the ship ITAL FORTUNA and it was delivered on June 27th.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard also announced they had recently received orders for high-value-added ships including PCTC and RO-RO vessels.

HMD received an order for 10,800-dwt RO-RO vessels worth US $670 million (including 4 options) from the Italian Grimaldi Group. This is HMD's 79th new vessel order in 2007. The 79 vessels, worth a total of US $4.43 billion, include 20 PCTCs and 15 RO-ROs.
