Massive 13,100 TEU container ships ordered from Hyundai shipyard
Biggest container ships yet built by HHI ordered by Nordcapital

Nordcapital Group and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) yesterday signed contracts for the building of eight massive container ships with a capacity of 13,100 TEU each.

These will be the largest container ships HHI has built and also represents the biggest single contract for the shipbuilders with a value of $1.4 billion USD

The ships will be delivered between April 2010 and March 2011.

The ships will differ from conventional designs with the bridge in front and the machine aft and will be built with the latest technological features and ecological requirements including an economic main engine burning low sulphur fuels, TBT-free paint coatings and inboard fuel tanks.

“Dynamic growth in the container ship travel will continue yet for many years. With rising transportation volumes and higher fuel costs our customers need larger container ships, to remain competitive”, say Erck Rickmers, acting partner of Nordcapital.

"We are pleased to further strengthen our close ties with Nordcapital, after the Group had already placed 45 orders with Hyundai Shipyards in the past", said K.S. Choi, president of Hyundai Heavy Industries, adding: “The ships will set a new yardstick in the container ship industry.”
