Improve planning processes urges
PD Ports
Operator calls for government
to make applications such as Teesport faster
Today PD Ports’ calls for an improved and faster planning process for
major port applications such as Middlesbrough based Teesport, received
a further boost from the Government.
In its response to the Transport Select Committee’s report the
Government agreed that more “can and should be done to expedite the
planning processes, to ensure that major infrastructure projects in
particular are dealt with in a more coordinated fashion.”
The response, which also noted that increased congestion around ports
in the Greater South East may need to be managed by demand measures
and pricing, follows the publication of an interim statement on the
Ports Policy Review last week.
PD Ports’ Group Development Director, Martyn Pellew, said: “We are
pleased that the Government has again recognised the important role
that ports play as part of a sustainable transport infrastructure as
well as emphasising the importance of speeding up the planning process
for major port applications
“Our planned expansion here at Teesport, known as The Northern Gateway
Container Terminal is underpinned by a strong business demand for a
deep-sea container port to fully serve the needs of the North of
England. With Teesport’s excellent road and rail access, the Port is
an ideal location for major expansion in terms of minimising the
impact on inland infrastructure.”
