New container ship launched at
Emden shipyard Another container ship of the 2,700 TEU series took to the waters of Emden Harbour when Yard No. 554 was launched today July 18th at Nordseewerke GmbH – a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG. At 11:00 o’clock, the last stopper was removed and 10,000 tons of steel glided silently into the harbour. Immediately after floating off, the ship was hauled to the outfitting peer where the modularly designed engine room will be outfitted and the complete deckhouse will be mounted. The final outfitting of the ship to follow will last until the end of November. Then the ship will be delivered to the customer, the GEBAB in Meerbusch. The 2,700 TEU ship will be run by the MARTIME shipping company in Elsfleth. The outer colouring of the ship already shows that this ship will be chartered by the shipping company Hamburg Süd. Yard No. 554 is the seventh container ship of the 2,700 TEU series. There is still another one to follow (Yard No. 555) before the new 3,400 TEU class will start to be built in the ship-building hangars in autumn this year. This very compact ship type carries 700 containers more in insignificantly larger dimensions. According to the wishes of the customer and the shipping company, the ship will be christened shortly before the delivery in November.
