Epic Shipping UK sign contract for six RO-RO vessels

Odense Steel Shipyard have confirmed that a contract has been signed with Epic Shipping UK for six RO-RO ferries, construction to

Each ship will be 193 metres long, and will have 3,700 metres lane capacity and have a deadweight of 11,000 tons. The ships will be delivered between 2009 and 2010.

The company said that the construction of the ships will safeguard employment for 600 workers at the shipyard from 2008 and to delivery of the last ship in 2010.

Jann Nielsen of Odense Steel Shipyard said that he was pleased to see orders come in from external customers and proved that the shipyard was competitive in the RO-RO market and the scheduling of the order fitted in well with the company's planning. He said he looked forward to supplying six good ships for Epic Shipping UK.

Epic Shipping operate a 50/50 venture with Bibby Line, Liverpool in the Meridian Ship Management company.

Epic currently operates two 2000 lane metre Ro-Pax ferries, on charter to European Ro-Pax service operators trading between Spain and the Balearic Islands
