LNG carrier launched at Mitsui's
Chiba shipyard On 7 July 2007 LNG carrier GRAND MEREYA which is being built for Russian shipping firm PRISCO and Japanese companies Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha was set afloat. The vessel was undocked and berthed at Mitsui Engineering Shipbuilding Yard in Chiba (Japan). The shipyard’s workers continue machinery outfitting work, piping and insulating works in deck erection and cargo tanks. As of today the building is 60 percent completed which means that construction of the LNG carrier is within the set schedule. It is planed that the new vessel will come into
operation in April 2008. The LNG carrier will transport liquid natural
gas exports from the LNG plant at Prigorodnoye, in accordance with a
long-term time-charter agreement between the consortium MOL/K Line/PRISCO
and Sakhalin Energy, the operator of Sakhalin-2 project. This vessel
is designed to operate in the adverse climate of Sakhalin Island.
