New container ship for Hamburg
Sud christened at Daewoo shipyard
Ffith of six identical vessels, the BAHIA LAURA was officially
named yesterday
The BAHIA LAURA, the fifth of a total of six identical 3,752 TEU
Hamburg Süd container ships, was christened yesterday (10th July
2007) at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME)
yard in Okpo, Korea. Sponsor of the newbuilding was Eva Graumann,
Director Public Relations, Hamburg Süd.
Following delivery on 12 July, the BAHIA LAURA will be phased into Hamburg
Süd's liner service between Asia/South Africa and South America East
Coast.
The BAHIA LAURA is named after the nature reserve "Reserva Natural
Bahia Laura" in the Argentinian province of Santa Cruz, which lies 80
kilometres south of Puerto Deseado.
This year has already seen delivery by DSME to the shipping group of
the "Bahia" and "Bahia Blanca"
(February), "Bahia Castillo" (April)
and "Bahia Grande" (June).
Hamburg Süd will be taking delivery of the final container ship in the
series, the "Bahia Negra", in August.
