Coastguard strike ends with
agreement
MCA reaches agreement with striking officers
The Maritime & Coastguard Agency has reached an agreement with its
Coastguard Rescue Officers on insurance cover whilst on duty. This
follows a meeting between the Chief Coastguard Peter Dymond, and the
Fishguard Coastguard Rescue Team on Thursday night, said the MCA in a
statement yesterday.
The MCA said it is now pleased to announce that it has reached
agreement on a process to compensate for loss of earnings and a range
of associated issues.
The Agency has also offered to press ahead with arrangements for
establishing a Working Group to consider the more detailed concerns
and options for the medium and longer term. The output from that
Working Group will be fed into a special CRS Conference to discuss
future arrangements.
Chief Coastguard Peter Dymond said after agreement had been reached
with the Fishguard Team
"I hope the Coastguard Rescue Service is now able to resume its normal
professional service in all areas where service was withdrawn in
providing search and rescue response to those in distress or danger
along our coastline. I am also particularly keen to see a long term
resolution to this issue.
