Ex Scottish-managed ship grounded in St Lawrence
Chemical tanker SICHEM ANELINE ran aground after leaving Montreal

A 6202 grt Eitzen chemical tanker, the SICHEM ANELINE, grounded in the St Lawrence river after leaving Montreal on Wednesday.

Officials say the ship was loaded with benzene bound for Philadelphia when the incident occured.

No damage seems to have happened to the ships hull and there are no reports of any leaks or pollution. The ship was safely taken into port yesterday,

Faulty steering has been put forward as a possible cause. The captain reported problems with the rudder but confirmation of this can only come after a full investigation.

She was built in 1998 by Spanish shipbuilders Hijos de J. Barreras, S.A.

Some Shipping Times readers may recognise her best as the SONGA ANELINE, once managed by Blystad Shipmanagement of Linwood Road, Paisley, Scotland. This office, Shipping Times understands, is being wound down following its sale last year to Eitzen and some vessels managed by it have been transferred to EMS Shipmanagement.

Confusingly, as an interesting note to this, another Blystad company has emerged in Paisley called Songa Shipmanagement Ltd. This office is located in Marchburn Road, Abbotsinch. ( Shipping Times would welcome further information on this.)
