Fast ferries from Singapore and container ship from Romania
Damen announced recently that it has delivered the first new Sea Buses to
Istanbul in March 2007.
The fast ferries were built under a contract with Istanbul Metropolitan
Municipality (IMM) for delivery of 5 units in total. Following sea trials
and technical acceptance at Damen's yard in Singapore, the first 2 ferries
were shipped on a carrier and handed over to IMM upon arrival in Istanbul.
A further 3 units are now being completed in Singapore and will arrive in
Istanbul in the coming months. IDO, the maritime transport authority of
Istanbul (www.ido.com.tr), has meanwhile incorporated the new vessels in
their large ferry fleet, to operate in the Istanbul Straits and the Sea of
Marmara.
The new catamaran fast ferries are of the Damen Fast Ferry 4212 design and
capable of transporting 449 passengers at a service speed of over 30
knots. Main characteristics include the high standards of passenger area
outfit, good sea keeping behaviour, and low specific fuel consumption. In
another contract for IDO, Damen has presently under construction 2 fast
car ferries of the Damen Fast RoPax (FRP) 8521 type, for delivery in 2008.
Also on March 30th 2007, the Damen Container Feeder JORK RELIANCE was
handed over to her Owners, a single ship KG under management of Reederei
Becker from Jork, Germany. For Reederei Becker she is the fifth and last
vessel out of a series of five and she is the twelfth vessel out of this
successful Damen Container Feeder 800 ( CFe800 ) series. All the vessels
out of this series of ice class E3 ( GL ) are built at Damen Shipyards
Galati in Romania and are optimized for the transport of 45' containers at
a service speed of 18 knots. After the handing over, the JORK RELIANCE
left the yard heading for Hamburg in Germany.
