First foreign order for DSV from
Hanjin shipyard
Company says this is proof of company's reputation for high-tech
shipbuilding
Hanjin Heavy Industries publicly announced on the 2nd, April that two
Diving Support Vessels (DSV) have been ordered by GULMAR of the United
Arab Emirates at the price of USD 220,000,000.
The DSV is a high-tech, high value-added vessel that is priced at over KRW
0.11 trillion per unit. It is the first time that a Korean shipbuilder has
received an order for a DSV from a foreign shipping company.
The DSVs will be 6,200DWT, 115.4m in length, 22m in width, and 9m in
depth. They are multipurpose operation support vessels for offshore
underwater oil well operations that can hold 120 crews and can support
underwater construction up to 600m in depth.
The vessels also include a decompression chamber for deep-sea divers, a
140t marine crane, and a helicopter landing deck. They are the latest and
the largest units, included with comfortable accomodation facilities for
divers.
These DSVs will be used by GULMAR for diver operation of underwater oil
and gas pipes.
A representative of Hanjin was quoted as saying, "The fact that we have
been selected to build Korea's first ice breaking oceanographic vessel by
the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as well as these high-tech
DSV for a foreign shipping company proves that our high-tech shipbuilding
capabilities are recognized throughout the world. The representative added
that "With these accomplishments, we will focus on building high-tech,
high value-added vessels in order to lead Korea's shipbuilding
industries."
Hanjin Heavy Industries is booked three years ahead for orders. Revenue
for orders received in 2007 for container vessels and ice breakers have
already reached KRW 800,000,000,000.
