Two arrested after explosions at shipyard
Police describe incredible duo who messed about with acetylene gas

Two men, aged 26 and 38, have been arrested and are due to appear at Lerwick Sheriff court today after explosions at a Shetland Isles shipyard.

They were arrested after police went to the Malakoff shipyard in Lerwick following two explosions. The police officers found the men had been 'messing about' with acetylene gas.

"They could have blown themselves to bits" said a police spokesman after describing how the men had filled plastic bin bags with the gas and set fire to them.

The Malakoff shipyard has been in Lerwick since 1924, it specialises in ship repair, marine engineering and steel and aluminium boat construction
