S-Club 8 as latest Evergreen ship is launched at Kobe shipyard

EVER SUMMIT, the eighth in a series of ten 7024 TEU S-class vessels being built for Evergreen in Japan, was launched on 2 March at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Kobe shipyard. She was named by Evergreen Group second Vice Group Chairman S S Lin while the ceremonial rope cutting, sending the ship down the slipway, was performed by Miss Satomi Tamura, the daughter of MD Yasuo Tamura, Hospital Director of the 3rd Kitashinagawa Hospital of the Kohno Clinical Medicine Research Institute.

Due for delivery in June 2007, EVER SUMMIT is scheduled to enter service on the Transpacific Southwest (TPS) service linking Southern China, Hong Kong and Taiwan with the West Coast of North America.

The Evergreen Group is approaching the end of a shipbuilding programme comprising 18 large post-Panamax containerships. Eight 8073TEU S-series are already in service and the S-series will be completed in 2008.

The EVER STRONG which was launched on 22nd November last year is due for delivery this month.

The fifth in the
7024 TEU S-series, EVER SUPERB was named Ship of the Year 2006 by leading Asian maritime publication Lloyd's List Maritime Asia
