Ill-starred ferry returns to service after being detained
Second incident involving collision with a Condor ferry sees HD1 prevented from sailing

Dogged by bad luck the HD Ferries catamaran HD1 was  detained by port authorities in Jersey after inspections of damage caused by a collision

The vessel collided with a docked Condor ferry, the CONDOR EXPRESS, last Saturday and following inspections she was not permitted to leave harbour until repairs were effected.

The company only started sailings to France from Jersey in March this year and this has been the second incident to befall the 1998-built ship. An HD Ferries master resigned after the first incident where HD1 collided with another Condor ferry in May.

The Jersey government has called in the MAIB to investigate this latest incident.

HD1, the only vessel to be operated by HD Ferries, is an Incat K series high speed fastcraft with a service speed of 38 knots and is capable of carrying up to 400 passengers plus 100 cars or 70 cars and 10 x 8 metre freight units.

She was brought in to provide a daily summer service from Jersey to St Malo.

HD1 is owned by HD Ferries of Abingdon and crew and technical management is carried out by the Clydebank-based ship managers Northern Marine, part of the Stena group.

Sailings resumed today and the company expressed its gratitude to customers for their understanding.
